Firstly, let’s know that what is an allergy? It is simply a reaction of our body to some foreign substances that “seems harmful”. But many of these substances are harmless, and most people use them in their everyday life without any problems.
An allergy occurs when your body’s immune system sees a certain substance, such as foods, pollen, pet, medications, latex or bee venom as harmful.
As it is known, one of the main roles of the immune system is to destroy harmful substances in the body. So it reacts by causing an allergic reaction.
If someone has an allergy to a certain substance, then their immune system will react as though it is harmful and as a result of that, will try to destroy this substance. This reaction can lead to some symptoms such as itchy, watering eyes, runny or blocked nose, etc.
In other words, the allergic reaction occurs when a person’s immune system becomes hypersensitive to some foreign substances.
And a substance causing this allergic reaction is called an allergen. Many of these allergens are everyday substances that are usually safe to most people.
There are many types of allergies. Some allergies are seasonal such that there are some people suffering from allergies only during allergy seasons, while others are year-round. But some allergies may be even life-long.
It is important to create a plan to manage your allergy. The best way to prevent an allergic reaction is of course, avoiding your allergens. Here is some types of awful allergies:

A pet lick or scratch can cause the skin area to become red. It is common to get itchy eyes when touching your eyes after petting an animal. It may cause an allergic reaction.
Generally, the allergies to medicines occur in only a small number of people. Most drug reactions are side effects of the properties of the medicine, not allergic.
And usually, a diagnosis of the cause of the drug reaction is based upon the patient’s history and symptoms. Sometimes for drug allergy, skin testing is also done.
Among symptoms, hives are usually present. But, the symptoms also may include:
- Shortness of breath
- Throat and mouth swelling
- Cramping abdominal pain
- Fall in blood pressure
The most common stinging insects that cause an allergic reaction are bees, yellow jackets, hornets, wasps, and fire ants.
Not only stinging insects, but also non-stinging insects can also cause allergic reactions. The most common are the insect-like dust mite, and cockroaches.

- Breath shortness, trouble breathing or wheezing (whistling sound during breathing)
- Dizziness and/or fainting

Most of the pollens causing allergic reactions come from grasses, trees and weeds. These plants make small and dry pollen grains which travel by the wind, and cause some allergic reactions.
Also note that grasses are the most common cause of allergies. They are called grass pollen allergy, tree pollen allergy, etc. Generally, symptoms of pollen allergy include:
